Sculpture

Sculpture on one page. The sculptors, stone carvers and ceramic artists who publish here, individual pieces in cast bronze, carved stone, welded steel, fired clay and salvaged material, and the exhibitions, open studios and casting demonstrations being announced.

Sculpture is the most expensive discipline here to practise and the hardest to store. Casting, welding and firing need equipment few artists own outright, so shared workshops and access to a foundry or a kiln often decide what a sculptor can attempt. Digital fabrication has entered the process rather than replaced it: a form modelled on screen is routinely milled or printed and then finished by hand. Ceramics has moved from the craft margins to gallery walls over the last decade.

Scale and weight do not travel through a single photograph, so pieces are usually posted with several views and, where the maker uploaded one, a short video turning the work under a light. Open studio dates matter more in this discipline than most: a lot of sculpture only reads properly with the thing in front of you.
