Craft

Craft gathered on one page. Potters, weavers, jewellery makers, glassblowers and bookbinders with portfolios and studio details, individual objects in clay, cloth, silver, glass, wood and paper, and the markets, open studios and short classes they are running.

Craft has moved from the margins back toward the centre of collecting. Work that was sold at fairs is now shown in galleries and bought as art, while the fairs themselves remain where most makers meet their buyers. Materials and firing costs have risen sharply, and kiln or workshop access shapes what a maker can attempt. Teaching has become a significant part of many practices, partly because the audience for learning a hand skill has grown faster than the audience for buying one.

Craft is the discipline where people most often want to know where to turn up and buy the thing, so the events row carries markets and studio openings as heavily as it carries exhibitions. Process shots sit with finished objects because in this discipline the two are more or less the same story.
