Dance divides sharply between company work and freelance practice. A contract with a company brings a salary, a building and a season; most dancers work outside that, assembling projects, teaching, and rehearsing in hired studios between them. Screendance has grown from a niche into a genre of its own, partly because a filmed work reaches an audience a touring show cannot afford to. Injury management and a short performing span shape careers here more than in any other discipline on this site.

Dance is the discipline that suffers most from being flattened into stills, so the work row plays video at the length it was uploaded rather than cutting it to a preview. Rehearsal clips sit beside finished pieces on purpose: a lot of what people want to show is the process, not only the performance.
