Karime Amaya

Karime Amaya is an internationally renowned flamenco dancer whose work carries forward one of flamenco’s most celebrated artistic legacies. Born in Mexico in 1985 into a family deeply rooted in flamenco, she is the great-niece of the legendary Carmen Amaya and the daughter of dancer Mercedes Amaya “La Winy” and guitarist Santiago Aguilar.

Karime made her stage debut at the age of nine with her parents’ company and went on to establish an international career as a soloist, performing at major flamenco festivals, theatres and tablaos around the world. Over the years, she has shared the stage with leading figures including Farruquito, María Pagés, Israel Galván, Tomatito, Manuela Carrasco and Antonio Canales.

Her dancing is distinguished by its intensity, powerful stage presence and deeply personal connection to flamenco tradition. While firmly rooted in the heritage of the Amaya family, Karime has developed a distinctive artistic identity of her own, combining inherited knowledge with an expressive and contemporary approach to performance.

In 2013, she received the Revelation Award at the Festival de Jerez. She was also a central figure in the documentary Bajarí, which received nominations at both the Gaudí and Goya Awards. Today, Karime continues to perform and teach flamenco internationally and is recognised as an important representative of the Barcelona flamenco scene and of a living artistic tradition that continues to evolve across generations.
