Studio visits in Barcelona

Short films shot inside the studios of artists based in Barcelona, one artist per visit. The room, the bench, the tools and the piece that is still half made. Nobody uploads these: someone arranges the visit, goes to the studio and films it, and visits from the rest of Catalonia appear here too.

A studio in Barcelona is usually a shared industrial unit in Poblenou, a top floor with light in the Raval, or a ground floor space in Gràcia or Sant Andreu, and it is rarely one person's alone. The framing shows it: a table, two metres of wall and the corner where the large work fits, because the rest of the room belongs to someone else.

Each visit belongs to the artist in it, with their full body of work alongside it on the site, so the half made piece in the film can be followed through to the finished one. The films play one after another. Watching needs no account; signed in, you can save a visit to your favourites.

The working language changes with whoever is in front of the camera: Catalan, Spanish, English, Italian. A lot of these artists came to Barcelona from somewhere else and the studio was the first thing they set up here. Old visits stay online, and in a city where rents move studios every few years, the room in the film may already be gone.
