Handmade Ceramics and Craft in Barcelona

Ceramics, woven cloth, jewellery, glass, wood and bound books out of Barcelona workshops and others around Catalonia. Each piece is posted by the person who made it, with their own note on material and method, and with the dimensions, which on an object carry half the information.

Glazed tile, trencadís mosaic and leaded windows have been on the facades here since the Modernista period, and that vocabulary turns up in new pieces with no nostalgia attached to it. Fired clay and coloured glass are an old local habit rather than a revival. Catalan ceramics also has a centre of its own at la Bisbal d'Empordà, well outside the city.

A listing takes images, video, audio and rich text, so one piece can carry wheel footage, a close crop of the glaze and the firing note in the same place. If a piece or a commission interests you, you write to the workshop: the email and phone are on its artist page, and a lot of these workshops are one person.

Runs are short and often single, so what is photographed is usually everything that came out of that firing. Listings are written in Catalan and Spanish, sometimes both. Read the dimensions before the photograph: a twenty centimetre bowl and an eight centimetre one look much alike on a screen.
