Sculptors and Ceramicists in Barcelona

Barcelona's sculpture studios close for August and reopen together every September, a rhythm worth knowing if you are commissioning from outside the city. Wheel-thrown clay builds up wet on the wheel and is fired afterward, and heavy casting or metal cutting moves outside the workshop, to a foundry in the metropolitan belt.

Training runs back a long way here: La Llotja has taught art since 1775, Picasso among its students, and Escola Massana teaches art and design in the Raval. Studio space concentrates in Poblenou, where former industrial buildings house both a production centre at Hangar and a wider base of working studios, while Fabra i Coats keeps studios and a creation centre inside a converted textile factory in Sant Andreu. MACBA, the Fundacio Joan Miro and the Museu Picasso anchor the public scene these studios feed into.

Commissioning from outside the city starts with a profile's stated dimensions and weight, since a welded steel piece and a carved wood piece of matching height do not install the same way.
