Studios, galleries, rehearsal rooms and project spaces in Barcelona and across Catalonia, each one listed by the person or collective that runs it. Some go by the hour or the month, some open their doors to visitors, and one or two are a desk inside somebody else's larger workshop.
Square metres decide most things in this city. Workshops cluster where the old industry left buildings behind, mainly around Poblenou and the sheds of Sant Andreu, and splitting a unit four or five ways is more usual than holding one on your own. That shows in what gets listed: a lot of loose desks, a lot of afternoon shifts, not many private doors.
When something fits, you write and say what you need it for, and the owner answers by email. There is no calendar here and no payment step. Prices come with their unit, the type of space is in the owner's own words, and each listing has a short list of what is inside and a location. Filter by city, type and price, and the city does not have to be Barcelona.
Two questions are worth asking before anything else. What happens in August, when half the city shuts and a shared workshop can go weeks with nobody to open it. And what you are allowed to do with noise, because in a ground floor unit off an inner courtyard the neighbour above is three metres away. The better listings answer both without being asked.
