Horacio Fumero

Horacio Fumero is an Argentine-born, Barcelona-based double bassist and one of the defining voices of jazz in the city. Born in Santa Fe, Argentina in 1949, he trained at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory in Buenos Aires and the Geneva Conservatoire before arriving in Europe in 1973 with Gato Barbieri, touring the continent's major jazz festivals. He settled in Barcelona in 1980 and, from 1981, became a core member of Tete Montoliu's regular trio, a partnership that shaped the sound of Catalan jazz until Montoliu's death in 1997. Over five decades, Fumero has shared the stage with Freddie Hubbard, Johnny Griffin, Danilo Pérez, Bobby Hutcherson and Woody Shaw, among many others, and has performed as a soloist with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Spanish National Orchestra and the Granada Symphony. Today he continues to perform across Barcelona's jazz scene, including regular collaborations with his daughter, pianist and vocalist Lucía Fumero, with whom he released the album Los Fumeros in 2023.
